Minister David Bennett has announced the opening of a competition open to Year 13 students around New Zealand. The competition is multi-media, and asks students to express through thier choice of media, why the Battle of Passchendaele is a significant event. 

There is a speech writing category for Year 12 students. The winner of this will read thier speech at the Pukeahu National War Memorial Park in Wellington for the national commemorative ceremony. 

Passchendaele is a significant event in New Zealand's First World War history - involving students so that the develop an understanding of the significance of the events that happened 100 years ago allows us to keep New Zealand's history alive.
