North Shore office update

We farewelled Monika Miller to an exciting new position with Sovereign. I feel fortunate to have had her with me for nearly 7 years and wish her every success in the private sector. Not that she's going far as Monika has now joined our executive committee. Chair David McKeown and Deputy Chair Gary Monk are delighted to welcome her on board to help us get National back into Government in 2020. We're celebrating 125 years of women winning the right to vote with an all woman 'Team Maggie' : Miriam Wiley, Danielle Grant, Holly Whitney and Bella Biggs in my Parliamentary office.

Honouring Suffrage

Suffrage Day is an opportunity to reflect on the role of women in politics. Students from Takapuna Grammar sparked an intelligent conversation about the challenges for young women. My National women parliamentary colleagues assembled to acknowledge how far we’ve come in 125 years. All women MP's were given a ceramic camellia pin in honour of Kate Sheppard.  As the Member of Parliament for North Shore, I am proud to be the 110th woman to enter the House of Representatives.

Talking about dementia at an enjoyable afternoon tea, hosted by Lesley Monk with guest speaker Rhonda Preston-Jones. Raising awareness and much-needed funds to support those living with dementia in our community. Everyone had such an excellent time, Lesley has now committed to making this dementia high tea an annual event.

Union workplace access anywhere anytime?

The Government's proposed changes to workplace relations law outlined by the Hon Scott Simpson at a free breakfast for local business owners. The event was organised by three North Shore Electorates including Erica Stanford MP for East Coast Bays and Dan Bidois MP for Northcote.

Visiting Milford Baptist Kindergarten during Conservation Week. There was great interest shown in planting a fig tree.

William Saunders Retirement Village 'Gunner Billy'

The Ryman Healthcare retirement village in Devonport will now be known as William Saunders. Construction is progressing well and on target to have the first residents shifted in by February 2019.

Hospice New Zealand conference

With Hospice CEO Mary Schumacher and friends at the 23rd Hospice New Zealand conference. The ANZAC spirit is thriving with the announcement of the End of Life Oceania conference to be hosted in 2019 between New Zealand and Australia. Talking about the proposed Euthanasia, Assisted Suicide Bill which Hospice New Zealand opposes.

Depot showcases students

Senior student creativity from Takapuna Grammar was on display at Depot Art Space. We were so impressed with Emily’s artwork we’ve bought a piece. It’s always good to catch up with Depot’s manager Lynn Lawton.
